Welcome – March & April 2025

As the chill of winter begins to fade and the first signs of spring appear, we can finally look forward to longer days, blooming gardens, and some fantastic community events! Welcome to the March & April issue of Stoughton Pages, packed with local news, inspiring stories and helpful advice for the season ahead.

In this issue, we catch up with Stephen Southgate, who is in training for the London Marathon in aid of Barnardo’s—an incredible challenge for a great cause! Car enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the Guildford Lions’ Classic Car Display returns in April, offering a chance to admire some beautiful vintage motors. And for music lovers, don’t miss the Surrey Police Band Concert on March 15th—always a wonderful evening of entertainment.

Our ever-popular home-grown crossword makes a return, giving you the perfect excuse to put the kettle on and enjoy a puzzle or two. We also hear from Home Counties Carers, who highlight Attendance Allowance—a little-known but important benefit for pensioners that could provide much-needed support.

There’s news from Guildford Cathedral, as the town welcomes its new Dean, who was officially installed on January 26th. Meanwhile, North Guildford Food Bank shares how they work to reduce waste while supporting those in need.

As we move towards Easter, Rev. Thom Jee reflects on the idea that hope is never far away, and how this theme is woven into the Easter story. We also check in with Timothy Spinks, who shares his latest advice on getting better sleep.

Finally, as spring approaches, The Worplesdon Garden Club provides some timely gardening tips to help you make the most of the season. We hope you enjoy this issue and look forward to catching up again in May & June!
